Data in Focus
Images That Move Discovery Forward
Data in Focus is a scientific image contest celebrating antibody-based images across spatial biology, multiplex immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, western blot, and related workflows.
The Winners Are!
Measuring the spatial characteristics of tumour metabolism. Colon adenocarcinoma showing
the tumor architecture markers in a 40-plex assay.
Vimentin, CD31, aSMA, CD20, PanCK, Collagen 1.
Image submitted by James Mansfield, Winnipeg, Canada.
CODEX image with a three-color overlay showing tumor cells
(CD140a+, blue) being attacked by T cells (CD3+, green)
secreting granzyme-B granules (red) to eliminate the tumor after
treatment with immunotherapy.
Image submitted by Ruan Vieira Medrano, St. Louis, MO, United States.
Here the epithelium (E-cadherin positive) shows precursor of high grade serous
ovarian cancer, STIC. The immune cells are in the vicinity of STIC epithelium which show
extra copies of MYC oncogene. The method is called ORION-FISH (Kader et al
Cancer Discovery 2026) whereby protein staining is combined with morphology preserved
DNA-FISH for single cell registration.

Eligibility
The Data in Focus image showcase is open to researchers, scientists, and laboratory professionals who generate original experimental images using antibody-based assays. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and authorized by their institution or employer to participate. Employees of Fortis Life Sciences and its affiliated companies are not eligible to receive prizes.
Submission Requirements
Each submission must include an image title, figure legend or caption describing the experimental context, and a brief description of the research objective or finding demonstrated by the image. Product information should be included if antibodies or reagents were used. Images must be based on real experimental data and must not contain confidential, proprietary, or restricted information. Multiple entries per participant are permitted provided each submission meets these requirements.
Image Format
Accepted formats are JPG, JPEG, PNG, or TIFF. Maximum file size is 10 MB. Single-panel or multi-panel images are permitted. Minor adjustments such as brightness, contrast, or cropping are acceptable provided they do not alter the scientific meaning of the data.
Image Ownership and License
Submitted images must be original work created by the participant or their research group. Participants retain ownership of their work. By submitting an image, participants grant Fortis Life Sciences a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, reproduce, and publish the image in marketing materials, scientific communications, digital channels, and educational content with appropriate attribution to the contributor.
Prize Drawing
All eligible submissions will be entered into a random drawing to receive one of three $100 Amazon gift cards. Submissions that include antibodies from Bethyl, Abcore, or Arista Biologicals will receive two entries in the drawing. Gift cards have no cash value beyond the stated amount, are not transferable, and may not be redeemed for cash or substituted.
Recognition Awards
Three submissions will be selected for recognition: Best Overall Image, Best Image Using a Fortis Antibody Product, and People's Choice Award. Each recognized contributor will receive two Fortis catalog antibodies with a maximum combined retail value of $1,000 USD. Prizes are limited to standard research-use-only catalog antibodies from Bethyl, Abcore, or Arista Biologicals and are subject to product availability. Custom antibodies, services, bulk orders, and restricted products are not eligible.
Prizes are non-transferable, may not be redeemed for cash, and have no cash value. If a selected antibody is unavailable, Fortis Life Sciences may substitute a comparable product of equal or lesser value. For institutions that restrict receipt of physical prizes, Fortis may provide an equivalent catalog credit to the recipient's laboratory.
Judging Criteria
Images will be evaluated by Fortis scientists based on scientific relevance, experimental accuracy, image clarity, effective use of antibodies or reagents, innovation or originality, and the ability to communicate biological insight. Judges may weigh these criteria differently depending on experimental context.
Submission Deadline and Notification
Entries must be received by May 1, 2026 at 12:00 noon ET. Winners will be announced on May 11, 2026.
Disqualification
Fortis reserves the right to disqualify submissions that do not meet the competition requirements, contain restricted or confidential information, misrepresent experimental results, violate institutional policies, or otherwise fail to comply with these rules.
General Conditions
Participation is voluntary and no purchase is required to enter. Void where prohibited by law. Participants are responsible for ensuring compliance with their institution's policies regarding participation in external competitions and acceptance of prizes. Fortis Life Sciences is not responsible for incomplete, lost, late, corrupted, or misdirected submissions.
Fortis Life Sciences reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the competition if necessary due to technical, operational, or regulatory circumstances.
