Hepassocin, also known as Fibrinogen-like 1 (FGL1), is a member of the fibrinogen family whose members share a fibrinogen domain at their C-termini. However, it lacks the platelet-binding site, cross-linking region and thrombin-sensitive site which are necessary for fibrin clot formation. Hepassocin/FGL1 is secreted by hepatocytes and may play a role in the development of hepatocellular carcinomas. Hepassocin/FGL1 is an immune suppressive molecule that inhibits antigen-specific T-cell activation by acting as a major ligand of LAG3 [taken from NCBI Entrez Gene (Gene ID: 2267)].
